Michelle Mierzwa, MD

Michelle Mierzwa MD is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan. She received her undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati. In 2008, she completed her medical training at University of Cincinnati after serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Mierzwa joined the faculty at the University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology in 2015. Dr. Mierzwa specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer and she is the principal investigator of numerous investigator initiated clinical trials designed to individualize the radiation therapy of head and neck cancer patients. Dr. Mierzwa has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and she serves on multiple national committees including ASTRO and AAPM to improve standardization of ontology in cancer. As Associate chair of Research, she oversees all clinical trials and the research staff for patients receiving radiation therapy in UM Radiation Oncology. In addition she also serves as a consultant for the Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC) focused on quality improvement in patients undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer, lung cancer and bone metastases.
