Welcome to MROQC

The Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC) is a collaborative group of specialists across the state of Michigan working together on quality improvement projects to impact the radiation treatment experience for patients.

MROQC’s goal is to identify best practices in radiation therapy that minimize the side effects that patients may experience from radiation treatment. Through generous support from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, we have developed the infrastructure to link together and analyze information about how radiation therapy is delivered with information provided by treating clinicians about patient outcomes, and information from the patient regarding side effects that occur during treatment. Data is collected at sites across the state of Michigan. We believe that by doing this, MROQC will be able to identify better ways of matching treatment plans to each patient’s unique characteristics to minimize the side effects that will be experienced. Our ongoing focus has been to help determine patients who would be most likely to benefit from the increased technology required to administer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) in the treatment of breast and lung cancer. In 2018, we expanded our focus into the treatment of cancer that has spread to the bones and in 2019, we will expand into the area of prostate cancer treatment delivery.

MROQC was created and is sustained through generous ongoing funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN). This funding significantly reduces barriers for Michigan hospitals wishing to participate in – and benefit from – the initiative. With funding from the Blues, hospitals and other health care organizations across Michigan are collecting, sharing, and analyzing data to improve patient care and outcomes.
